The songs and authorial texts embrace the issues that permeate the female universe in a historical as well as a political and social perspective, including the mythical and mystical side that, according to the artist, “makes women the most dazzling and seductive being on the planet, uterus and cradle of all humanity”. An esoteric triler. It is a novel with attractive elements of post-modern culture. Like your first novel, it will be accompanied by a soundtrack. Nil Lus mixes prose and music, fiction and reality in this book. Its characters are real and fictional figures. When reading it, one does not know where reality ends and fiction begins. From the courts to the stages of the world. After joining the Brazilian national team as a handball player, Nilton Cruz from Minas Gerais followed his dream of being a musician and now competes for the Latin Grammy
Sport and guitar were the two passions of a boy born in Belo Horizonte in the early 1960s. After playing at Ginástico, Nilton Cruz joined the Brazilian handball team and became known as Canhão. Time passed and Cannhão became Nil Lus, singer and songwriter, and has just been nominated for a Latin Grammy. This story begins in Bairro Nova Vista, where he was born and raised “with great pride”. Since I was little, I dreamed of playing the piano. He asked his mother, Raimunda Maria da Cruz, known there as Lia, to buy him one. “It didn't. It said that if you bought a piano, you would have to sell the house. But when I turned 10, she gave me a used guitar as a gift. I went crazy. Who does not have dog, hunts with cat. So, the piano was forgotten and I embraced my new passion”, recalls Nilton. At the same time, he learned about handball at Colégio Estadual Central – where the sport was played for the first time in Minas Gerais, brought by the hands of professor Lincoln Raso, in the late 1960s. The first great team from Minas Gerais was born there, the Ginástico, which reached the Brazilian bi-championship, in 1974 and 1976, with a team that had Bacalhau, Toco, Gustavo – both sons of Lincoln Raso –, Lúcio, Zequinha, Fred, Lelei, Jorge, Zé Augusto, Zé Rubens, Nelson, Jamanta and Chato, a team that, by the way, was the basis of the Brazilian team for several years. Cannhão was a reserve in the 1976 conquest. Outstanding in the school, Cannhão also took over the direction of the Gym. Defending the club, he joined the Brazilian team in the late 1970s and remembers his debut in detail. “It was in a game at Mineirinho, Brazil vs Israel. I was the only miner called up. The team was full of people from São Paulo. I was on the bench, dying to get in. My friends, teammates, were all in the chairs. But the technician wouldn't even look at me. But suddenly he called me. I went in and on the first ball I caught, it was in the midfield, I sent a shot there in Israel's goal drawer. I went crazy. I left running and went to celebrate with friends. Nobody had ever done that. The game stopped. From there, I became the title holder and was in all calls.” Cannhão says that he played in several international tournaments between South Americans and pre-Olympics. “We were always doing very well, but we decided against the USA. They were very strong. Handball was just starting in Brazil. They had played there for a long time and there were a large number of teams, unlike here. We never got to go to an Olympics back then. But we compete in the worlds.” The song Cannon goes back in time and remembers the guitar. He says he played wrong. “My guitar, the one my mother gave me, wasn't tuned. It was out of tune, but I could play it. One day, I was 10 or 11 years old, playing sitting on the curb, when a neighbor, Pastor Antônio, passed by. He told me he was wrong. I insisted not. But he took the guitar from me and tuned it. Then he gave it back to me. Damn it. I didn't know how to play anymore. I came home crying. My father wanted to know what had happened. I told him and said the pastor had ruined my guitar. That's when my father patiently explained to me that now the guitar was right and that I should practice. He was right.” And playing handball, with each victory, each title, the guitar was there, together. “We went out to celebrate and there was always a guitar. I played and people cheered. I started to wake up to this detail. Later, to earn money, he played in bars. It became my livelihood, as our sport did not pay. The bars were a school for me.” Sonho Canhão passed the entrance exam for physical education at UFMG. At the same time, he passed the course in administration and economics at Fumec. “I even started dentistry at PUC, but I abandoned it. I didn't have the money to pay for a university course. Then handball was of great value, as the director of Fumec called a neighbor at my house, the same pastor, sent for me and asked to go talk to him. Gave me a bag and set up a handball team. It was the first university in Belo Horizonte.” Summoned once again for the Brazilian team, Cannhão competed in the Pre-Olympic in the United States. “We didn't win, for a change. But there he had a four-year visa. I decided to use it for music. I was called up for a handball tournament in Canada, but I abandoned the sport and decided to bet on my dream, music. I went to the US, I worked as a security guard at a nightclub, I was a street vendor. But I managed to play in a Brazilian concert hall, Via Brasil. That's when luck started to change.” And there, a music producer saw him took him to Europe. “I had already written a lot. I only played my songs. I went to Portugal and there I founded the Lusofonia – Sons da Fala project, in partnership with Sérgio Godinho, Vitorino, Tito Paris and others. It started to work. Invitations came to record records. First, in France, there were two. In Portugal, five. One in Spain, another in New York and also in England. Then I moved to Germany, where I recorded five, including the last one, All Tones.” Nil Lus' career has grown a lot. To give you an idea, he has already performed twice at the Montreux Festival. He performed in Cuba, Colombia, Chile, Bolivia, as well as Brazil. This week, he embarks on a three-week tour of Mexico following his Grammy nomination. The last song on the CD is called México Bonito Y Amigo. The nomination for the Latin American award moved him. “I swear I didn't expect it. It's a very important thing for any musician. Now, at the end of September, the winners should be released. I find it difficult to win, but I consider it a great victory to have been nominated.” The album Todos os Tons was produced by Victor Flowers, former producer of Alicia Kiss. It also has the co-production of the German Jurik Maretzki. Among other awards and decorations, he was the winner of the 1st National Fritz Teixeira Salles Poetry Contest, with the theme “Poemia”, at age 15, and received, in April 2007, the title Médaille dargent, by the French Academy of Sciences, Letters and Culture in Paris. In 2006, his song Tambor was chosen as the theme for the World Cup in South Africa. Source: superesportes.com.br (03/09/2018)
